The Senate campaign of Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) is hammering her opponent, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson, with a harsh new ad Friday that highlights his recent investments in companies that do business with Iran.
The Huffington Post revealed last week that Thompson held stock in several companies with ties to Iran, including the firm Rio Tinto, which mined uranium in Africa in a joint operation with the nation.
Thompson unloaded the suddenly radioactive stocks almost immediately, estimating they sold for close to $40,000.
The new Baldwin ad (below) highlights those facts and also adds the allegation that Thompson worked for a lobbying company that fought to weaken sanctions against Iran.
Thompson's campaign declined to answer a request for comment.
