One Wichita man spent months planning the perfect New York City proposal, only to have Hurricane Sandy crash his romantic plans.

According to KWCH 12 Eyewitness News, Kansas resident Jordan Doom flew girlfriend Natalie Vandervort and her family to New York City under the guise of visiting Vandervort's sister. Doom's proposal went off without a hitch -- they enjoyed a six-course meal, he got down on one knee, Vandervort said "yes" -- but now Hurricane Sandy has left the couple stranded in the city.

The pair had hoped to return home on Monday, but with airports in the region closed as the storm surges toward the East Coast, the Wichita couple's trip has been extended at least until Wednesday.

Still, the bride-to-be hasn't let the superstorm dampen her excitement over the engagement.

"I was completely blown away," Vandervort told KWCH, "I said 'yes,' obviously -- everything's been a whirlwind since then."
