A drunk 19-year-old Washington man punched a 5-month-old puppy in the face on Friday, cops say.
Jesse Pegram, of Ethel, was wasted when he went berserk and assaulted his family's German Shepherd, Lewis County sheriff's deputies told the Chronicle. The pooch, Bernice, suffered a swollen eye and a leg injury.
It's believed that Pegram also threw his family's pet against a tree.
At about 1 a.m., family members called police, who arrested Pegram and slapped him with a charge of first-degree animal cruelty, according to the Associated Press. Cops told the Chronicle that he was "obviously intoxicated" and had "beaten the family puppy."
A deputy drove Bernice to a local clinic, which treated the puppy in the middle of the night.
Bernice is expected to make a full recovery. She may be transferred to the Lewis County Animal Shelter.
