Republican candidate John MacGovern was projected to lose to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) in the Vermont Senate election on Tuesday, according to MSNBC.
MacGovern was considered a longshot candidate against Sanders, who has been in the Senate since 2006.
