What Parents Tell Their Kids About Voting
NEW YORK, NY - NOVEMBER 05: A voting booth stands at the ready as students return to school on November 5, 2012 in the East Village neighborhood of New York, United States. Students at Public School 188, like most schools in New York City, returned to school Monday for the first time since the hurricane hit last week. Many students in the area were displaced due to storm flooding. The school will be used as a polling center in Tuesday's Presidential election. (Photo by John Moore/Getty Images)

Not all parents think it's a good idea to tell their kids who they are voting for, but chances are few would object to explaining why they're participating in the election to begin with. In this spirit, Bob Brody of Letters to My Kids wanted to find out more about how parents explain this process to their children.

"Over the last few weeks I’ve asked parents around the country a few questions about the Presidential election," he writes. "Why do you vote? Why does voting matter? What do you think about the campaign and the candidates?"

Here are excerpts from ten responses -- "addressing kids little and big with views patriotic, poignant and political" -- which appear in full on Letters to My Kids. Click through the gallery to see their takes, and tell us in the comments: What would you say in a letter of your own? Plus, if you've taken your kids to the polls today, add a photo to our Election Day slideshow here!
