Anthony Weiner Twitter Account Is Back: Former Congressman Tweets For Hurricane Sandy Relief

Former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who was once hailed as a savvy "technophile" by The New York Times, appears to have officially returned to social networking with his first tweet in nearly a year and a half.

The tweet included a YouTube link to a video urging for more hurricane relief in the Rockaways, which was among New York's badly-hit areas following last week's devastating superstorm:

It's Weiner's very first tweet since Weinergate in June 2011, when he accidentally posted a lewd photo of himself on Twitter.

Weiner eventually admitted in a press conference, "Last Friday night, I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as a direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle."

Republicans jumped on the embarrassing error, eventually putting enough pressure on Weiner for him resign from office.

Monday's tweet follows recent rumors of a possible mayoral run in 2013.

In July, Weiner also gave his first joint interview with wife and senior aide to Hillary Clinton, Huma Abedin.

Could Weiner's Twitter resurrection be a sign the former Congressman is ready to put Weinergate behind him and move forward with his political career? Only time will tell.
