'Black Girls Rock' 2012: Gabrielle Union Opens Up On Combating Negative Stereotypes (VIDEO)

During this week’s episode of HuffPost’s Black Voices’ weekly entertainment news series, BV 365, host Teri Johnson was on the “pink” carpet for BET’s annual “Black Girls Rock” event in New York City and had the chance to speak to some talented women in the entertainment industry.

When Gabrielle Union was asked what Black Girls Rock means to her, she didn’t hesitate to point out the difference between the purpose of the empowering event and reality television.

“It’s combating the negative stereotypes that we’re bombarded with daily from reality TV shows that show women of color acting crazy and ignorant and celebrating ratchetness,” she admitted. “This is the absolute opposite." Hip-Hop artist Bow Wow also expressed his excitement to Johnson about his gig as one of 106 & Park’s new hosts.
