Did Kobe's 'Death Stare' Get Coach Fired?

The Lakers have fired Mike Brown as head coach after the team stumbled out of the gate to a 1-4 start. With Steve Nash and Dwight Howard acquired during the offseason, expectations were sky high in Laker Land when the 2012-2013 season began. Through five games, however, the team was dwelling in the cellar of the Pacific Division.

During Brown's final game on the Lakers' bench, a loss to the Utah Jazz, he was on the business end of a Kobe Bryant glare that seemed hot enough to burn down the Staples Center. If one look could truly cost a coach his job then it would likely look like this one:

Dubbed the "death glare," the look went viral the day after the game and Bryant was asked about it during a practice on Thursday. Downplaying the incident, Bryant described himself as Brown's "biggest supporter" while speaking with reporters.

Despite Bryant's dismissal of the stare, it was frequently cited on Twitter after USA Today broke the news of Brown's firing.

What do you think? Did Bryant's very public frustration catalyze the firing of Brown?
