10 Companies That Are Working To Hire Veterans

After coming home from war many veterans still face the challenge of unemployment.

In 2011, 12.1 percent of recently active U.S. military veterans were jobless. That's compared to the national unemployment rate of 8.9 percent.

That could be because stereotypes, including that military skills are difficult to transfer to civilian job settings, persist among some employers. For some though, the independence and leadership that those in the military posses, on the other hand, is unparalleled, and many companies find great value in military experience.

That could be why 29 percent of employers are recruiting veterans, up from 9 percent a year ago, according to a CareerBuilder survey cited by NBCNews.

Many companies nationwide, including General Electric and Wal-Mart, actively recruit military veterans to join their workforce. Without a doubt, no matter how it translates into the job market, American civilians are always grateful to those who have served the nation.
