Meryl Streep & 'Alice In Wonderland': Lost Footage From Actress' Trippy '80s Stage Performance

WATCH: Lost Meryl Streep As Alice Footage

Before she was Julia Child, Miranda Priestly, or Sophie Zawistowska, Meryl Streep was a fresh-faced 32-year-old sporting a full mane of fuzzy blond curls and baggy pale pink overalls, performing in the New York Shakespeare Festival.

Open Culture has dug up footage of the actress playing Alice in the festival's 1981 production of "Alice At The Palace" -- two years after Streep gave her breakout performance in "Kramer vs. Kramer," but before she was accepted as a full-fledged movie star.

The footage shows the actress giving an impressive performance of "Eating Mushrooms," and features her at the end of a snippet of "Jabberwocky."

Streep sways back and forth, singing, "I have never been in such a state before."
