'Oprah's Favorite Things: Crazy Reactions From Military Spouses

It had become an annual tradition. A room full of women going absolutely insane as Oprah Winfrey announced, "It's my favorite things!" "Saturday Night Live" even did a classic skit of the moment, with women going feral and one of them even exploding. Well, just because her talk show is gone doesn't mean "Oprah's Favorite Things" is a thing of the past.

The talk show queen brought back the event as a special on OWN. For 2012, she gifted 30 military spouses with a wide variety of items, including an elliptical machine, motorized bicycle and Jessica Simpson shows. The spouses were chosen by their peers -- 1.1 million military spouses worldwide -- as representatives of their community.

They also represented the legacy of "Oprah's Favorite Things" very well, giving those classic over-the-top reactions that made the specials so popular for so many years. And, it turns out, the spirit of giving is contagious. Babette Maxwell, the president of the Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year Award® program reported that many of the women are giving to other military spouses, as well as setting up a gift exchange based on the concept of paying it forward.
