After the news broke on Monday that Danielle Fishel and Ben Savage would be returning for Disney's "Boy Meets World" spinoff "Girl Meets World," Fishel took to tumblr to pen an open letter "Boy Meets World" fans.
"The first comment out of every person’s mouth was, 'Let’s only do it if we think we can create something as special as we did with 'BMW,''" Fishel said of early conversations about the show.
"'GMW' is a new show," she continued. "It isn't 'BMW' brought back to life but in current day ... There were only a few of you but I know why you don’t want 'GMW' to happen and I appreciate that 'BMW' meant enough to you that you don’t want to see its legacy tarnished. I can assure you, we don’t want that either."
Although the development of "Girl Meets World" is still in its early stages, Disney has confirmed that the project will center on Cory (Savage) and Topanga's (Fishel) teen daughter Riley, with Cory playing a history teacher.
Fishel isn't the only "Boy Meets World" alum who's getting excited about the series. William Russ, who played Cory's Dad Alan, and Anthony Tyler Quinn, who portrayed Mr. Turner, have also expressed enthusiasm.
"I'm very excited for Disney and [creator] Michael Jacobs. They are a great team and will produce an exceptional show, I have no doubt," Russ said, while Quinn added, "I'm really excited ['Girls Meets World] is getting so much buzz."
