Film Independent announced its nominees for the 2013 Spirit Awards, and indie favorites "Silver Linings Playbook," "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and "Moonrise Kingdom" were among the big winners.

"Silver Linings Playbook" -- despite having a reported budget of $21 million, $1 million more than the "limit" for eligible films -- was nominated in the Best Feature category alongside "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Bernie," "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Keep the Lights On." The David O. Russell comedy-drama also scored noms for Best Male Lead (Bradley Cooper), Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Director (Russell) and Best Screenplay (also Russell).

Cooper was joined in the Male Lead category by Matthew McConaughey ("Killer Joe"), Jack Black ("Bernie"), John Hawkes ("The Sessions"), Thure Lindhardt ("Keep the Lights On") and Wendell Pierce ("Four"). Meanwhile, Lawrence paces a female lead category that includes Quvenzhane Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Smashed"), Emayatzy Corinealdo ("Middle of Nowhere") and Linda Cardellini ("Return").

In the supporting categories, Matthew McConaughey was lauded for "Magic Mike," while Sam Rockwell ("Seven Psychopaths"), David Oyelowo ("Middle of Nowhere"), Michael Pena ("End of Watch") and Bruce Willis ("Moonrise Kingdom") also earned nominations. In the Supporting Actress category, Helen Hunt ("The Sessions"), Brit Marling ("The Sound of My Voice"), Lorraine Toussaint ("Middle of Nowhere"), Rosemarie DeWitt ("Your Sister's Sister") and Ann Dowd ("Compliance") will compete for the award.

In the Best First Feature category, indie favorites "Safety Not Guaranteed" and "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" are joined by "Fill the Void," “Gimme the Loot," "Sound of My Voice." "Safety Not Guaranteed" also earned Best First Screenplay honors.
