Van Stolen, 3-Year-Old Child Inside: Man Speeds Off In Vehicle, Finds Sleeping Boy Buckled In

Thief Steals Van With Snoozing Child Inside

A van thief didn't plan on a passenger when he boosted an idling vehicle on Chicago's South Side Thursday night.

Police say a three-year-old boy was asleep inside the van that was stolen as it sat double-parked in the 7800 block of South Essex Avenue, reports CBS Chicago.

The boy's mother, 20, left the van running while she went to ring a relative's doorbell around 10:15 p.m., according to DNAinfo Chicago. Police said when she turned around, her vehicle--and her son--were gone.

Neighbors quickly called 911 and according to the Tribune, responding officers found the van two blocks away on Yates Boulevard shortly after.

Though the suspect was not found, the Sun-Times reports the boy--who slept through the whole ordeal--was unharmed.
