30 Days Of Holiday LGBT Giving: Services & Advocacy For GLBT Elders (SAGE)

Note: This holiday season, in lieu of a traditional holiday gift guide, we'll be featuring a different LGBT organization each day for our "30 Days Of LGBT Giving." Check back tomorrow for a look at another incredible group that's working tirelessly on behalf of the LGBT community.

Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is the nation's largest and oldest (since 1978) organization that serves older adults of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The advocacy group, which aims to improve the lives of its main constituents, provides support services and consumer resources for elder LGBT members and their caregivers, pushes for local and national public policy changes that addresses the needs of LGBT older adults and offers training for LGBT organizations and aging providers, mainly through the group's National Resource Center on LGBT Aging.

SAGE, which is headquartered in New York City, has additional offices in Chicago and Washington D.C. and continues to grow its efforts with an expanding network of 23 local affiliates spread across 16 states and the District of Columbia. According to SAGE's website, LGBT older adults are "four times less likely than heterosexuals to have children, twice as likely to be single and living alone, and much more likely to be disconnected from families of origin," making SAGE's work that much more imperative.

If you're interested in learning more about this incredible organization and how you can contribute to their cause, visit their website and find them on Facebook and Twitter @sageusa.
