Rachel Buffett, Actress Accused Of Covering Up Murder For Dan Wozniak, Says She Was Tricked

Actress Accused Of Covering Up Murder: I was Tricked

An actress accused of helping her ex-fiance cover up two gruesome California murders said her lover was not who she thought he was.

"I'm innocent," Rachel Buffett, 25, told ABC News Tuesday. "It was like the person I loved never really existed."

Police tell a different story. According to the Long Beach Police Department, Buffet helped Dan Wozniak, 28, who is charged in the deaths of two friends, cover up the crimes.

"They were just amazing people and I'm sorry such evil has occurred," Buffett said.

Wozniak is charged in the 2010 death of Sam Herr, 26, dismembering his body and placing his remains in a local park. He also is charged in the murder of Herr's friend, Julie Kibuishi, 23. Police said he tried to make it look like Herr killed Kibuishi before he committed suicide.

Prosecutors haven't revealed details about why they think Buffet was an accomplice. Senior Deputy District Attorney Matt Murphy told Belmont Shore Patch he didn’t want to risk trying his “case in the media."

“My only comment is we have every confidence in the case,” Murphy said.

Prosecutors said Wozniak killed Herr so he could steal his money to pay for a wedding to Buffett and a honeymoon, according to KABC. Wozniak allegedly withdrew $2,000 from Herr's account at an ATM.

Wozniak is in jail on two felony counts of special circumstances murder and Buffett is out on $1 million bail after she was arrested Nov. 20 on suspicion of being an accessory to murder after the fact.
