Jamie Foxx: 'Oliver Stone Said I Can't Act'

HUFFPOST EXCLUSIVE: Jamie Foxx: 'Oliver Stone Said I Can't Act'

He's an Academy Award-winning actor and an acclaimed television star, but Jamie Foxx says he didn't see himself as an actor until he was well into his career.

On "Oprah's Next Chapter," Jamie tells Oprah he first knew he was an actor when he won one of the lead roles in Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday" in 1999. But he says he had to work hard to land the part.

"Oliver Stone... when he met me he said, 'You stink, you're terrible. You can't act at all," says Jamie. "And I was like, 'What?' It was because I came from TV. And everything was loud in TV... And as I walked out of [Stone's] office from my first audition, he wrote -- and made me hear what he was saying-- 'Jamie Foxx: Slave to television.' He said, 'I want to give you the lead part but we've got to work on you, because you stink.'"

Watch Oprah and Jamie's two-part conversation on "Oprah's Next Chapter" on OWN, airing Sunday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 23 at 9 p.m. ET.
