The tragic events that took place on Dec. 14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., have left a nation saddened, confused and angry.
But it’s the small town’s resilience to the unexplained violence that is inspiring others to offer messages of hope to a grieving community. Soon after the shooting, Wall of Love, an interactive website was set up where anyone can submit photos, sayings and words of support for the victims, their families and the tight knit town.
"We want to show the students of Sandy Hook Elementary that there is more good than bad in this world," one photo reads. The site is also filled with quotations from the Dalai Lama to personal handwritten letters encouraging Newtown to “stay strong” and reminding them that they are loved.
The shooting which killed 28 people, including 20 children and the shooter himself, brought President Barack Obama to tears -- even calling it the most difficult day of of his presidency.
"In the face of indescribable violence, in the face of unconscionable evil, you've looked out for each other, and you've cared for one another, and you've loved one another," President Obama said at an interfaith prayer vigil in Newtown on Sunday night. "This is how Newtown will be remembered."
