Anne Hathaway's Marriage: Star Says She Picked Fights While Filming 'Les Miserables' (VIDEO)

Anne Hathaway may be all smiles now that her performance in "Les Miserables" is earning Oscar buzz, but she admitted that it's a "miracle" that her marriage survived the filming of the epic musical.

The extreme weight loss she underwent to portray the sickly Fantine, as well as the dark nature of the role, caused her to become "manic," Hathaway revealed on Chelsea Lately Monday night. She admitted to picking a fight with husband Adam Shulman when he didn't want to watch a sunset with her.

"I'm like, 'Honey, it's the most incredible sunset you've ever seen, we have to go outside right now and see it.' And he was like, 'Honey, I'm on a business call,'" Hathaway said. "And I was like, 'Fine. That's great for you.'"

But Hathaway said she eventually asked Shulman to go home while she finished up the shoot in London because he was preventing her from going deeper into her role.

"I needed to go further into that negative place to play my character, and I love him so much that I was like, 'You're making me happy. You're keeping me up and I'm clawing to the sides of my life and I need to fall into a pit and you need to go, honey,'" Hathaway said.

Hathaway married Shulman, an actor and jewelry designer, in September after four years of dating.
