The old adage "New Year, New You" can mean that the new year is a chance to reinvent your style. Rather than undergoing a total transformation (and spending valuable time and money in the process), we are taking a look at four ways you can reinvigorate your style and eliminate stress when you're getting dressed.
1. Embrace formerly shunned style items. For example, the much-maligned scrunchie is experiencing a comeback. In an effort to protect hair from the potentially damaging effects of rubber bands, many girls are turning back to the cloth-wrapped hair accessory.
2. Leggings are no longer taboo. The form-fitting pants worn almost exclusively by yogis and Pilates students is a staple for a reason: They are comfortable, stretchy and warm. We prefer to see a longer tunic covering up the tush and the dastardly camel-toe, but otherwise, be proud to wear your leggings (especially if they are leather).
3. Clashing prints and colors are OK. In fact, they are better than OK. The patterns usually bring out the hues in the contrasting prints, and as long as the silhouette is a simple, flattering cut, you can expect compliments. Don't worry about clashing: Fashion icons like Jenna Lyons and Solange Knowles have made it their signature style.
4. Take a cue from our neighbors up north and don a Canadian tuxedo. Katie Holmes does it, and looks fabulous in it. Go for a a soft chambray shirt in a lighter blue, paired with a high-waisted pair of flare jeans for an eye-catching look. Break up the monochromatic palette with a fun belt.
