Burger King is kicking off the new year with a slew of new menu items, including two "molten fudge" desserts and a Whopper with avocado and swiss. Perhaps most notable are the restaurant's chicken nuggets. Previously dubbed BK Crown Tenders, the product now takes on a name more closely associated with McDonald's.
GrubGrade first spotted these menu items in a Burger King location several weeks ago, but now the company has provided a few details on availability and preparation.
According to a press release from Burger King, the nuggets will be cooked in a tempura-like batter, resulting in a crispier texture. They will also be made with all-white meat. Starting January 7, customers can purchase the new nuggets, which come in four, six, 10 and 20-piece servings starting at $1.00.
The nuggets are a permanent addition to the menu, but Burger King's six other new offerings are available for a limited time. The molten fudge bites and molten fudge sundaes feature fudge brownies with a chocolate filling.
There has been a resurgence of dessert offerings at fast food restaurants in the past year. McDonald's added a variety of new pies and sundaes to their menu in November, and Burger King released a line of ginger bread desserts for the holidays.
The recent menu update is Burger King's third major revamp within the past six months. Last summer the company underwent the biggest menu change in its history. Shortly thereafter, it announced its fall menu, which mostly consisted of new chicken items, including wraps and popcorn chicken.
