Rose Parade Arrests 2013: 40 People Arrested, Almost All For Public Intoxication

The Drunk Tank Should Be Another Rose Parade Float

A total of 40 people were arrested at the 2013 Rose Parade or Rose Bowl game, according to Pasadena police. All but two of them were arrested for being drunk in public, the Pasadena Sun reports.

That's "pretty typical" of the last eight to 10 years, police told the Los Angeles Times. And it's much less than in the 1980s, when police would arrest about 500 people that day.

The fire department received 20 calls this year, which is significantly less than the 60 calls received last year, the Daily News reports. This was partially because the weather was cooler -- dipping into the 30s -- so less band members reported being overheated. A total of nine people were transported to hospitals, five of whom were unconscious.

Twenty-three people were arrested along the parade route, and 17 were arrested at the game. One person at the parade was arrested for possessing burglary tools that could be used to break into cars and one person at the game was arrested for going onto the field immediately after the game, Patch reports. The rest of the arrests were for public intoxication.
