Busy Phillips Talks Gay Marriage, Michelle Williams Lesbian Rumors And Chick-Fil-A In The Advocate

'Cougar Town' Actress Talks Lesbian Rumors, Gay Marriage And Chick-Fil-A

Busy Phillips is sounding off on gay marriage, Chick-fil-A and rumors she's involved in a secret lesbian relationship with Michelle Williams in an intimate new interview.

The 33-year-old "Cougar Town" actress tells Brandon Voss that marriage equality is important to her simply because she's "a decent human being."

"It’s a civil rights issue," she says. "In 20 years we’re going to look back at tapes of these antigay people saying ridiculous things on the news and it’s going to sound as antiquated a the newsreels of horrible racists from the ‘50s."

As for long-standing rumors that she and her "Dawson's Creek" co-star Williams are more than just good friends, Phillips adds, "I love her as deeply as I love almost anyone. But we don’t do it."

She also recalls a conversation between husband Mark Silverstein and their now 4-year-old daughter Birdie Leigh.

"One day she overheard me talking to my mother about the whole antigay debacle," she says. "Days later, my husband was with her in the car -– she was almost 4 at the time -– and she said, 'Daddy, we can’t eat Chick-fil-A anymore. This guy who owns it is so weird. He thinks a guy can’t marry a guy and a girl can’t marry a girl. But we know better!'"
