Just days after photographs emerged of Justin Bieber smoking a dodgy looking cigarette, friends of the star say "leave the kid alone, he’s just growing up." But they insist that any rumors that he visited a sick young girl in the hospital to draw attention away from the photographs as a press stunt are simply false.

“He’s a young kid doing what young kids do,” a close member of Justin’s team tells The Huffington Post of the cigarette picture. “Not defending it, but it happens. He goes to parties and hangs out. Some of the wrong folks are sometimes around. He’ll survive. He just needs to get things together a bit.”

And that is exactly what he has done. Right before his concert Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Justin stopped by the Children’s Medical Center to meet with a 7-year-old fan, Millie Flamm, who has been battling leukemia for three years. People inside Justin’s camp say that he had planned the visit for a while.

“This visit had nothing to do with the recent photographs,” a friend of the singer reveals. “There was no press, and if a friend of the family hadn’t posted a picture on Facebook no one would have known he went. This isn’t the first time Justin has done something like this.”

While visiting Millie, Justin gave free concert tickets to her family and friends in her room and kissed, hugged and even sang for the young lady.

“What is more upsetting than what Justin is alleged to be doing in the photos, is the fact that a so called ‘friend’ would take them and sell them to the press,” says an insider. “It’s sad he can’t have 10 minutes away from the spotlight to grow up like everyone else does.”
