Tom Cruise, South Korea: Actor Becomes Honorary Citizen In Busan

Tom Cruise Gets Honorary Citizenship

Tom Cruise will become an honorary citizen of Busan, South Korea. According to The Hollywood Reporter, officials for the country's second-largest city announced that Cruise will be crowned with the title Thursday at the Busan Cinema Center.

The 50-year-old actor is visiting the city as part of a promotional tour for his latest thriller, "Jack Reacher." Cruise's co-star, Rosamund Pike, and director Christopher McQuarrie will also receive citizenship.

"The visit of a top star and director will contribute to promoting Busan's important status in Asia for cinema," an official told the publication. "The city has decided to award the honorary citizenship to Mr. Cruise in recognition to his contribution to the industry."

The residents of Busan, home of the largest annual film festival in Asia, are certainly not alone in expressing love for the "Top Gun" icon. When asked which celebrity he'd most like to see go "Gangnam Style," South Korean rapper Psy has repeatedly named Cruise.
