D.C. Adoptable Animals: 48 Dogs, Cats, Rabbits and Birds Need New Homes

WASHINGTON -- How do you say no to this great big doggie smile?

This is Polly Pocket. She's about a year old, and she's always got that grin on her face. A friendly, loving dog, Polly Pocket is looking for someone who'll smile back at her (plus take her for walks, and snuggle on the couch).

Polly is one of the 48 pets in this week's slideshow of adoptable animals -- a slideshow that includes cats, dogs, rabbits and birds, all hoping for new homes in 2013.

Adopt Me!

This week's pets come from the the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, the Washington Animal Rescue League, the Humane Society of Fairfax County, the Montgomery County Humane Society, the Washington Humane Society and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which is having specials on bird adoptions through January.

And don't forget that the Washington Humane Society's 12th annual Sugar & Champagne Affair is coming up on Jan. 31. This event honors local crusaders against animal cruelty. And dogs are welcome as guests!
