Eric Garcetti Leads In Donations So Far In 2013 Mayoral Race

Councilman Eric Garcetti took a narrow lead over Controller Wendy Greuel in the critical race for money in the March 5 mayoral primary, according to new fundraising reports, with Councilwoman Jan Perry continuing to trail.

Garcetti reported raising $727,503 in the period leading up to Dec. 31 and has raised a total of $3.6 million for the campaign, along with the maximum $667,000 in matching funds from the city Ethics Commission.

Greuel has raised $3.4 million for the election and also has maxed out at $667,000 in matching funds.

Perry reported having raised a total of $1.4 million and also has $512,000 in matching funds.

Attorney and former radio talk show host Kevin James has raised $316,000 and has received $180,000 in matching funds while businessman Emanuel Pleitez raised $212,000. He has applied for matching funds.

In the race for city attorney, former Assemblyman Mike Feuer continued to lead the field with $898,000 raised and receiving the maximum $300,000 in matching funds. City Attorney Carmen Trutanich reported raising $318,000 and has received $158,000 in matching funds.

Private attorney Greg Smith reported $718,000, including a $620,000 personal loan. He has rejected matching funds.

Councilman Dennis Zine was the leading fundraiser in the race for controller, with more than $727,000 plus $267,000 in matching funds. Businessman Ron Galperin reported raising $304,000 and has received $133,000 in matching funds. Neighborhood Council member Cary Brazeman reported having raised $136,000. He has rejected matching funds.

In local City Council races, Assemblyman Bob Blumenfield, D-Van Nuys, was the leading fundraiser in the 3rd District race, reporting more than $100,000. Certified accountant Joyce Pearson reported more than $78,000, including a $15,000 loan; small-business owner Elizabeth Badger reported $35,000 plus $33,000 in matching funds; business owner Cary Iaccino reported $29,000 and city investigator Steven Presberg reported $8,100.

Councilman Paul Koretz, in the 5th District, reported raising more than $125,000. None of his opponents reported any contributions.

In the 7th District, former Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes was leading with $191,000. Actress-producer Krystee Clark reported more than $8,100, and education advocate Nicole Chase reported raising more than $7,000.
