Gov. Rick Perry (R) took a hit at New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) during a policy forum Thursday, saying Cuomo would "dearly love to be able to stand up and say" that the Empire State's economy has grown as much as Texas.
“You could say that the economic climate that has allowed [Texas] to grow and create jobs," Perry said, the New York Daily News reports. "He’d dearly love to be able to stand up and say, ‘We did this in New York.’ But he can’t.”
Perry continued to tout Texas, joking that other governors wouldn't admit how much they liked the Lone Star State.
“I’m sure that I couldn’t get all 49 other governors to admit that they would want to be Texans,” Perry said. “I’m thinking that Gov. Cuomo would not admit that he’d want to be a Texan.”
While Cuomo did not respond to Perry's joke, he did make headlines recently for his fiery reactions to several issues, including gun control and Hurricane Sandy relief aid.
Cuomo slammed House Republicans at the end of the 112th Congress, calling their "inaction and indifference" toward the Sandy relief bill "inexcusable." The governor had similarly colorful remarks on guns in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, calling for an end to "the madness" of gun violence in his State of the State address:

"The tragic events of just the last few weeks in Newtown, Conn., and West Webster, N.Y., have indelibly taught us guns can cut down small children, firefighters and policemen in a moment," Cuomo said in his third State of the State address on Wednesday.
"No one hunts with an assault rifle. No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer," he said. "End the madness now!"
