Rapper Kid Cudi has been cast in DreamWorks' upcoming racing film, "Need for Speed."
Billboard.com reports the hip-hop star, born Scott Mescudi, joins Dominic Cooper and Imogen Poots in the film based off the Electronic Arts video game of the same name.
The movie will follow the story of a local street racer played by "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul who, after being framed for his friend's death, participates in cross-country race from New York to Los Angeles to seek revenge. Cudi will play a member of the racer's crew.
The movie is set to be released on Feb 7, 2014 reports The Hollywood Reporter and will be “rooted in the tradition of the great car-culture films of the '70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise," per a DreamWorks press release.
Cudi recently blasted his record label in several angry tweets, sharing his frustration with the lack of radio play his music has received. His last acting role was in the HBO series "How to Make it in America." The show was cancelled in 2011 after two seasons.
