James Flenniken Allegedly Steals Steak, Wine To 'Impress A Lady'

Man Steals Steaks, Wine To 'Impress A Lady,' Cops Say

The New York Times is wrong: Courtship is not dead.

James Flenniken, 48, went all-out for an upcoming date by allegedly stealing about $80 worth of steaks, wine and beer from Walmart in Manatee County, Fla., according to the Bradenton Herald.

According to the sheriff's office, Flenniken was nabbed by Walmart's loss prevention officer, and when deputies showed up, Flenniken, completely unprompted, informed them he had taken the goods to "impress a lady."

He was charged with petty theft.

Nevertheless, Flenniken's courtship strategy is still preferable to the not-so-smooth moves of Jason Dean, a Georgia man who handcuffed himself to his Taco Bell coworker in order to force her to go on a date with him.
