"The Following" ratings are in and Fox could have a hit on its hands.
About 10.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the launch of the new Fox series, starring Kevin Bacon, and "The Following" pulled in a 3.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
"The Mob Doctor," the previous timeslot occupier, debuted to 5.1 million viewers with a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic on Monday, Sept. 17. "Alcatraz," last season's midseason replacement on Mondays at Fox, had a two-hour premiere that had 10.1 million viewers and a 3.3 ratings. Both "The Mob Doctor" and "Alcatraz" were canceled.
"The Following" stars Bacon as Ryan Hardy, a retired FBI agent with a whole mess of personal problems. He comes out of retirement to help stop Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) and the cult of followers he amassed willing to commit murders in his name. Kevin Williamson of "Scream" fame is behind the Fox series that also stars Shawn Ashmore and Annie Parisse.
"I'm excited for people to ... see what else is there," Williamson told HuffPost TV at "The Following" premiere. "You see the previews and it comes off as this scary thriller starring Kevin Bacon. It is that, but it's also a hybrid show. There's a drama going on, there's a love story, there's all these other elements running through it. There's a lot more than just sort of the scare and the blood. I'm excited for the audience to see that."
