Master sommelier and long-time "Check, Please!" host Alpana Singh will be stepping down from her duties with the popular WTTW show as she focuses her energy toward The Boarding House, her new four-story River North restaurant.
"It's been just an amazingly awesome 10 years," Singh, who started on the series in 2004, told the Chicago Tribune. "But once you become a restaurant owner-operator, there's just no way. I come home and sleep for six hours and go straight back to the restaurant."
Singh's highly anticipated The Boarding House "New American" wine bar and restaurant opened last month at 720 N. Wells St.
In a blog post on WTTW's website, David Manilow said he and Singh have enjoyed "an extraordinary journey together filled with laughter, interesting people and, of course, memorable food and wine." Next, Manilow continued, comes the process of finding a new host -- "the right one to replace Alpana's knowledge and grace," a search expected to commence within the coming weeks, according to Eater Chicago.
Shooting of the current season of "Check, Please!" is already complete, according to DNAinfo. Episodes featuring Singh will continue to air through May and production on the new season -- the show's 13th -- is set to begin in June.
