Britney Spears is not slated to be a headline performer at Caesars Palace, despite earlier rumors that the pop star was set to leave "The X-Factor" for a Celine Dion-type residency in Las Vegas.

The new developments emerged in a Buzzfeed article which quotes Caesars representatives denying previous reports. A spokeswoman for the company said the casino "is engaged with a number of today's top artists in discussions regarding headlining residencies at our venues in Las Vegas." And though Caesars is "always interested in having artists with the caliber of Britney Spears performing at our theaters," Spears is apparently not among the "top artists" currently being considered.

That's in contrast to earlier reports that Spears was in the middle of a bidding war between multiple Sin City hotels and casinos. One expert went so far as to suggest Spears could bank $2 million a week from her now-endangered residency dreams.

Though Buzzfeed cites some anonymous sources who say there are other offers on the table, another option has also apparently vaporized. Spears was rumored to be considering dropping her anchor at Planet Hollywood, but any openings there have since been filled by a hypnotist. Tough break.
