How Brendan O’Connell Turns Ordinary Walmart Scenes Into Fine Art : The New Yorker

From Walmart To Fine Art

ONWARD AND UPWARD WITH THE ARTS about painter Brendan O'Connell. Since 2003, Brendan O'Connell has been inside dozens of Walmarts around the country. It is probably safe to say that he has been in more Walmarts than anyone who doesn't work for the company. Describes an epiphany O'Connell had at a Winn-Dixie while he was a student at Emory University. When he first began visiting Walmarts, he would cruise the aisles as if he were an ordinary shopper, and, whenever he saw something the filled him with wonder, he would take a photograph. The photographs were studies for paintings.
