Grimes Quits: Musician Says 'Bye' To The Internet, Then Takes It Back

Grimes (born Claire Boucher), has had quite the day.

First she published a piece on her Tumblr account regarding her favorite music of 2012, including commentary on Psy, Beyonce, and Mariah Carey. Then, when Pitchfork wrote about the piece, she penned a new post, writing, "my Tumblr is not a news source. I'm debating whether or not I should delete this s--t. I will decide in the next 5 minutes. My specific problem is that I don't like it when what I say on here is taken out of context and posted elsewhere. It's not a story and its not an official statement."

Both posts (and all posts prior) were then deleted and replaced with a statement reading, "I'm out because i need some semblance of a normal life in order to be happy. Bye Internet <3"

Twenty minutes later, Grimes then posted a screenshot of a headline reading "UPDATE: Grimes has deleted her entire Tumblr," with the response, "Haha I'm still on the Internet."

Grimes' third album, "Visions," was released in early 2012. The indie pop record was critically well-received. In July, the singer spoke to MTV about her next project, saying, "I’m thinking about making [an album] that is a bit more experimental that I don’t put out as Grimes, because I want to stick with this pop aesthetic as Grimes. I’ve been working on more percussive noise music and also a lot of straight vocal music."
