Bank of America advised customers on Twitter Thursday night to go to the ATM and get cash to prepare for winter storm Nemo.
Not everyone was convinced.
Bank of America confirmed that no, they were not joking:
If winter storm Nemo causes power outages, cash theoretically could come in handy, since many retailers' credit card machines rely on electricity to function. Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Northeast in October, caused widespread power outages in New York and New Jersey.
Forecasters estimate that winter storm Nemo will last until Saturday and dump up to 3 feet of snow in Boston and 1 foot of snow in New York City, according to the Associated Press.
