A woman working in the Chicago Police Department's Major Accidents Investigation Unit took a call about a deadly SUV rollover crash on the Skyway Friday evening, only to learn the the crash victim was her younger sister, an off-duty cop.
Police say Shaunda Bond, 31, died when the SUV she was driving rolled over on the Chicago Skyway around 10:40 p.m Friday, according to the Tribune.
Bond, who joined the force in 2009, was driving on the Skyway near 81st Street "at a high rate of speed," according to witnesses. ABC Chicago reports Bond hit a guard rail, causing her Range Rover to flip.
The off-duty cop was roughly 8 miles from her Bronzeville home at the time of the crash, and it was unknown where she was headed. DNAnifo Chicago reports Bond was the only one in the car at the time.
The Sun-Times reports the Cook County Medical Examiner pronounced the woman dead on the scene.
