Prince Edward County Home Invasion: Virginia Resident Kills Two Men In Attempted Burglary

Father, Protecting Son, Kills 2 Armed Burglars

Two burglars are dead while a third crook is on the loose after a homeowner opened fire to defend himself and his two-year-old son in Virginia.

The trio of thieves smashed through the front door of a home in Prospect at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Sunday. only to encounter the armed 25-year-old resident. The intruders shot at the young dad, but two were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Police are still searching for the third burglar, who fled the scene as the homeowner called 911, WTVR reports.

According to a WWBT report:

Investigators say that the suspect fled on foot about a quarter of a mile west of the home. The search dogs tracked his scent that far. The man is then believed to have gotten in some sort of vehicle, and taken off on Route 460. There is no description yet of the car that he may have taken

Melissa Long, 44, who lives with her husband three houses away from the crime scene, is pleased that her neighbor could defend himself.

"They didn't know that the homeowner was prepared," Long told HuffPost. "I'm just glad nothing happened to him or his child while that was going on."

Prince Edward Sheriff’s Departement didn't return calls from The Huffington Post.
