Want a discount on pizza? Bring a gun.
On Monday the Virginian-Pilot photographed Thelma Lazernick clutching a customer's Ruger Mini-14 .223 semi-automatic rifle at All Around Pizza and Deli. Her grandson Jay Laze owns the shop, which was offering a 15 percent discount to gun owners.
Laze told the newspaper that 80 percent of the customers at his Virginia Beach, Va., eatery have taken advantage of the discount. In order to earn a cheaper slice, patrons have brought in everything from 9 mm pistols to an AK-47.
"It's not so ordinary to see people in Virginia openly carry a firearm into a store or shop," Amanda Lucier, the Virginian-Pilot photographer who captured Lazernick's image, told The Huffington Post on Tuesday.
"I didn't find it odd at all," she said, adding that All Around has become a popular stomping ground for Second Amendment advocates since the shop announced the discount on Friday. "If you supported recycling, you would go to a place that really supported recycling."
As it turns out, Lazernick wasn't the only gun-toting grandma at the shop that day. According to Lucier, there was another woman on the premises who was carrying her grandson in one arm and a 9 mm in the other.
In the past several weeks, several business -- including an ice cream shop in Utah and a computer repair shop in Arizona -- have offered similar discounts for gun owners.
Earlier in February, a Pittsburgh gun shop owner started giving away an AR-15 assault weapon and ammunition to promote his business, as well as the importance of the Second Amendment.
In January, Utah resident Joseph Kelley became a viral sensation after he was photographed carrying an unloaded AR-15 and Glock 19C into a local J.C. Penney store in an effort to demonstrate guns can be safe in public.
