Walter Johnson's Death Investigated As Homicide 36 Years After He Was Shot

A 36-year-old unsolved robbery is now a homicide investigation.

Sacramento man Walter Johnson, 62, died on Monday of complications from getting shot by armed robbers in 1977, according to Fox40. Johnson was paralyzed by getting shot in the upper body.

Johnson was headed towards his parents house on April 9, 1977 when "three men blocked the roadway with their car," cops said, according to Fox40. The men got into a scuffle with Johnson before shooting and robbing him.

The Sacramento Bee reports that robbery detectives investigated the shooting and even found one person of interest, but they never named any suspects. Now, homicide detectives are handling the case.

Johnson's nephew Donald Brown Jr. told KXTV he hopes someone will come forward to help cops crack the case.

"Please step up," Brown said. "Tell us something, anybody who knows anything."

Anyone with information on the robbery should call Sacramento police at (916) 443-4357.
