Teenager Injured When Bullet Explodes In Heated Oven

All Aalaya Walker wanted was some food in her belly. Instead, she got bullet fragments on her legs and chest.

Walker, 18, was attempting to make frozen waffles at an apartment in St. Petersburg, Fla., on Monday night when the oven suddenly exploded, spraying her with shrapnel from an exploding bullet that her friend, Javarski "JJ" Sandy, had stored in the appliance, MSN reported.

The bullets belonged to Sandy's .45-caliber Glock 21, which he kept in a drawer.

After the explosion, Walker managed to pick some of the fragments out of her leg and chest and then took a bus to the hospital, where she was treated and released, according to NBCNews.com.

Officers met with Walker and then sought out Sandy, who confirmed her story and showed his concealed weapon permit as well as the now-melted magazine, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

"[Sandy] stated that he does not have a temperature gauge on the oven so he estimates the temperature based on how far the knob is turned," according to a police report obtained by newspaper. "I observed that the inside of the oven was damaged."

No arrests were made.
