Good news for Dwayne Johnson. His new action flick, "Snitch," is leading the weekend with $4.14 million across 2,511 theaters on Friday. "Snitch" stars The Rock as John Matthews, a father who is faced with deciding what lengths he will go to protect his son who is facing jail time for drug distribution. Also featuring Susan Sarandon and Benjamin Bratt, "Snitch" is on pace for a weekend gross of $11.5 million, THR reports.
Taking a close second was Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy's "Identity Thief." The comedy brought in $4.1 million across 3,222 theaters on Friday, bringing its total domestic gross to $83.7 million. "Identity Thief" has received mixed reviews from critics and earned a B CinemaScore from moviegoers.
"Safe Haven," an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel of the same name, came in third on Friday. Starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, "Safe Haven" made $3.5 million across 3,223 theaters on Friday. The romance has grossed $40.98 domestically since its Feb. 14 release.
Keri Russell's "Dark Skies" also opened this weekend, taking the number four spot for Friday. The thriller made $3.1 million across 2,313 theaters.
Rounding out the top five was the latest installment in the "Die Hard" franchise, "A Good Day To Die Hard." The action flick made $2.8 million across 3,555 theaters on Friday, reaching a total domestic gross of $44.6 million since its release.
