U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is known for breaking barriers for female lawyers, and she recently revealed that her marriage to her late husband, Martin Ginsburg, was equally ahead of its time.
In the new PBS/AOL video series "MAKERS: Women Who Make America," Ginsburg opened up about her 56-year marriage to Marty -- a man who cooked and was interested in Ginsburg's ideas at a time when most boys "didn't care if a girl had a brain."
"I come to [Harvard] law school, I'm a little concerned about how I'll fare with a 14-month-old child. Marty's bragging to everybody in his class that his wife is going to be on the [Harvard] Law Review," Ginsburg said. "That's how he was."
She said Marty, who became a renowned tax law expert, was so comfortable with himself that he never regarded her as a threat.
"On the contrary, I think he figured that he's so good, so the person he picked to be his life partner's got to be the cat's meow," Ginsburg said.
Hear more of Ginsburg's touching thoughts on her late husband in the video above. The Ginsburgs married in 1954 and had two children. In 1993, Ruth became the second woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Marty died of cancer in 2010.
