Canada's most beloved couple since Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling have called it quits.

Us Weekly confirms that Alison Pill, 27, and Jay Baruchel, 30, have called off their engagement and broken up. Sources told the website that the pair's long distance relationship wasn't meant to be, as Baruchel was committed to working and living in Canada, while the star of "The Newsroom" felt there were more opportunities for her elsewhere.

"Alone again, naturally. Heartbroken. I won't be on twitter for awhile gang. Getting dumped rules."

Baruchel later deleted the tweet, but kept to his word and took a few days away from the microblogging site.

The couple met on the set of the movie "Goon," and became engaged in December 2010. Baruchel announced their engagement in March 2011, after he thanked his fiancee while being honored at the Genie awards. The "How To Train Your Dragon" actor told the Toronto Star he proposed to Pill at Christmas in his hometown of Montreal:

“I bought her 180-year-old Victorian wedding band and I was going to give it as a nice kind of gift for Christmas ... And I decided in that moment I might was well called a spade a space, and I’m pretty sure my words were “F**k it; do you want to marry me?' To which she said, ‘Yes, of course.’"

At the time, the actor told the Star the couple planned to tie the knot at a Montreal winery in September 2012; however, that date came and passed. Just last month, Baruchel cited the couple's laziness as the reason they hadn't wed yet, telling the Times Colonist:

"Unfortunately, we're two busy people who are intrinsically lazy. So in our free time the last thing we want to do is book flights and organize hotel rooms for people," he said. Despite this admission, the actor seemed confident they would exchange vows, adding that the wedding will "happen at some point."

Just six days later, Baruchel tweeted he'd been "dumped," and on March 3, Pill was photographed sans engagement ring.
