Mood swings, hot flashes, sleeplessness -– everybody knows about the changes that happen to women as their levels of estrogen drop and they go through menopause.
But do men experience a similar set of unwanted changes as midlife approaches and their hormone levels decline? A Monday segment on HuffPost Live discussed the idea that the hormonal changes men experience in midlife constitute as “male menopause.”
“It’s absolutely real,” said Dr. Gino Tutera, a leader in bio-Identical hormone replacement therapy. "Without adequate hormone replacement therapy for myself, the ability for me to function on a day-to-day basis would be very difficult.”
Dr. Tutera went on to discuss the drowsiness and depression he experienced as a result of decreased testosterone levels.
“When I started replacing my testosterone … it was a complete eye opener to me as to how severe these symptoms can be,” said Dr. Tutera.
