Fans wondering just how long Joe Carroll was going to be running his show from behind iron bars -- and in that awful orange jumpsuit -- need wonder no longer. In this week's installment of "The Following," he orchestrated a daring and complicated escape plan. As usual, it involved his followers and kidnapping someone of value.
In this case, it was the daughter of the warden. Suddenly, he got a prison transfer. Ryan started to put the pieces together as to what happened, and even managed to catch up to Carroll at one point. But Carroll's followers are devoted to the cause, and they were effective enough to slow Ryan down, as well as to raise the body count. Carroll even killed his lawyer himself -- strangling her with Ryan on the phone after she'd helped facilitate his escape from prison.
Carroll managed to escape Ryan's pursuit in a helicopter. He flew to a university where a small legion of his followers poured out of the front door. His son was there with them, who recognized Carroll as his father. This not-so-small group of people was just the first hint at how large Carroll's following is. And these were just the people who gathered for this event. He seems to have people everywhere.
This case isn't likely to be wrapping up quickly either, as Fox just re-upped for a second season of 15 more episodes. "The Following" continues on Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
