Erin Nicole Thorne, Teacher, Accused Of Sexual Relationship With Student

Teacher Faces 10 Years For Allegedly Sexting Student

A Maryland High School teacher is accused of sending sexually explicit texts to one of her students.

In November, Erin Nicole Thorne, 28, was placed on leave from Broadneck High School in Anne Arundel County when the school began to look into the allegations, according to WJLA.

On Tuesday, Thorne turned herself in to police after being charged with sending obscene material to a minor and solicitation of child pornography, according to Broadneck Patch.

Thorne allegedly sent and received nude photos via text from the student when he was underage. After he turned 18, police said, the two began having sex.

Patch reports that Thorne was a "long-term substitute teaching English to Broadneck students and was also a former basketball coach at the school."

In a statement obtained by WMAR, Broadneck principal David Smith said the allegations "cast a negative light" on his school.

"We have a great school and a great community that supports our Broadneck students in their individual quests for excellence," Smith said. "It saddens me that charges like this cast a negative light on our school and tarnish the incredible work that our staff, parents, and students do on a daily basis."
