After losing her brother, Damon convinced Elena to turn off her emotions. This week on "The Vampire Diaries," he learned that turning off her emotions actually severed the sire bond as well -- though it remains to be seen if it would come back if she turned her emotions back on.
The other thing Damon learned, along with everybody else, is that Elena without emotions is a pretty mean girl. She has no regard for what anyone says, doesn't care who she hurts along the way, and was even willing to kill her best friend.
"This isn’t you, and you know it," Caroline said, trying to talk some sense into Elena.
"Don’t you get it?" Elena replied. "I don’t care."
It was a brutal fight, but Caroline survived it. Entertainment Weekly thought it was a "pretty badass sequence," while Hollywood Life called for even more catfights on the show. If Elena stays switched off for awhile, they'll probably get their wish.
Strangely enough, Damon found himself drawn to this cold and calculating Elena. The episode ended with the two of them heading off to New York together.
