Former Democratic Senate candidate Richard Carmona says he will not run for governor of Arizona in 2014, answering one of the hottest political questions in the state and shaking up the race to succeed Gov. Jan Brewer.
“I’m not ready to say I’ll never do it again, but this time, it just isn’t the right time,” Carmona said in an exclusive interview on Sunday with 12 News.
Carmona staffers had ignited the speculation in January by saying he was considering the race, and Carmona later confirmed it. In his first run for office last fall, Carmona lost a brutal U.S. Senate race to Republican Jeff Flake by a small margin.
