WHAT IS IT?
All 12 of these three-inch-long sterling utensils -- shaped like tiny ears of corn -- are stamped with the maker's mark for the Massachusetts-based Webster silver company, which was founded in 1869 and acquired by Reed & Barton in 1950. Figural corn-cob holders like yours appear in Webster's 1916 catalog for 44 cents apiece. Since the design remained unchanged into the 1960s (when the holders cost $1.30 each) it's impossible to precisely date your hand-me-downs. Still, most sets on the market today include only six to eight pieces, so your intact dozen fetches a pretty penny.
